Gholamreza Ameli was sentenced to death for the attempted murder of the then head of the Justice Department of Tehran Province, Ali Razini.
He was the second defendant in the Mahdaviyat case [case of vigilante group accused of the attempted assassination].
According to a report by ISNA [Iranian Students' News Agency], Ameli's death sentence was approved by the 31st branch of the State Supreme Court which was presided over by Qatilzad [no first name given].
