Senators are set to resume deliberations on a measure which seeks to repeal the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1972 when Congress resumes session.
Sen. Robert Z. Barbers, proponent of the measure, said the main amendment will be on the provision on imposing the death penalty on anyone caught with as little as 10 grams of any kind of dangerous drug.
Under the existing law, the death penalty is imposed on anyone caught with 200 grams of shabu. For other kinds of restricted and prohibited drugs, death is imposed depending on the amount and the kind of drug seized.
Barbers said senators feel that 10 grams is too small an amount for the death penalty.
