Gregorio Lazaro and Mariano Domingo were sentenced to death by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court in the Philippines after they were found guilty of kidnapping and killing businessman Jonell Mendiola.
Court records showed that on September 22, 2002, the convicts boarded Mendiola's car in Xavierville Subdivision in Quezon City.
The suspects then shot Mendiola when a police patrol car gave chase. Lazaro and Domingo were arrested but two other suspects escaped.
