Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court, China, handed Zhu Zhiwei the death sentence with a two-year reprieve for smuggling heroin to Canada via Hong Kong. Accomplices Ou Weineng and Yang Weiming received life imprisonment on the same charges. The three colluded with drug dealers in nearby Hong Kong to smuggle heroin to Canada via Hong Kong and to smuggle heroin from abroad to sell in China between June 2000 and December 2002, Xinhua said. Some 100.5 kilograms (221 pounds) of heroin was involved.
