GUYANA MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR WIFE'S MURDER

Doodnauth Ramsaywack who was on trial in the High Court for the murder of his wife was sentenced to death after the jury returned a unanimous verdict. Ramsaywack was indicted for the November 4, 2003 murder of his wife Ahilia Kuar called "Sherry". Kuar was found dead at the couple's East Coast Demerara home with 14 stab wounds.
During the trial the prosecution called the couple's daughter to testify. The girl told the court that she heard her mother scream on the night in question and saw her father with his hands cuffed on her mother's chest. She recalled seeing her father leave the home with a knife in his hand shortly after. Ramsaywack's story was that his wife died accidentally during a quarrel between them.
