Hands Off Cain and 30 Falun Gong practitioners from Taiwan demonstrated ion front of the Chinese embassy in Rome in protest against repression by the Chinese authorities of the spiritual movement, and the death sentences handed out to two Christians. HOC launched a public appeal for freedom of belief in China for Falun Gong adherents, Christians, Muslims and spiritual movements in general.
The appeal was addressed to Chinese president Jiang Zemin and called for the respect of international standards of freedom of religion and conscience, and solicited the Chinese authorities to allow believers to practice their spiritual beliefs freely.
