following the revelation that a Syrian man and his family had been detained for four days at Italy’s Milan-Malpensa airport before being repatriated, in spite of the fact that the man had been sentenced to death in his country, Hands Off Cain has asked the Italian government for clarifications on the matter as well as immediate moves to protect the Syrian citizens.
The abolitionist organisation has declared as serious the fact that foreigners travelling through the country can be held for days without anyone being made aware of the fact and that the necessary examinations weren’t made as to the consequences of repatriation or nevertheless deportation to a destination different from that requested by the family in question. Moreover, HOC has asked the Italian Government to immediately intervene and take all necessary measures to assure that Muhammad Sa’id al-Sakhri, his wife and four children, are guaranteed in Syria respect of their human rights as established by international conventions.
