Hands Off Cain welcomed the European Parliament's unanimous approval of a resolution calling for the presentation of the moratorium resolution at the ongoing UN General Assembly currently in session in New York without delay.
Sergio D'Elia, HOC General Secretary, declared: "The unanimous appeal by the European Parliament calling on the Italian presidency to proceed without delay with the presentation of a pro-moratorium resolution at the ongoing UN General Assembly gives Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini the green light he was waiting for.
"Frattini, who yesterday communicated to the European Parliament the existence of doubts expressed by some of the European partners with regard to the proposed initiative at the General Assembly and asked the EP for authorisation to proceed anyway, now can count on the full support of the European people's representatives.
"After the pronouncement of the European and Italian parliaments (in the latter a second debate will be held in the coming days) and after the verification, done by the Italian diplomatic service, of Hands Off Cain's forecasts on a vote at the General Assembly, the Italian government has no more obstacles.
