Hu Changqing, former vice-governor of Jiangxi province, was sentenced to death for corruption. Between 1995 and 1998 Hu, who was also a former deputy director of the State Bureau of Religious Affairs, had used his position to extort bribes worth more than US$540,000 and had accepted gifts valued at more than Yn970,000 from local businessmen.
