Hundreds of convicts on death row or serving life imprisonment have demanded the quashing of their sentences and automatic compensation by the Kenyan Government. Describing themselves as the "end consumers of a corrupt judicial system," the convicts said their only reason for being behind bars was because they were poor. "There are thousands of innocent people languishing in prison, not because they committed any offence, but because they could not afford to bribe the trial judges," said Jackson Mwangi a prisoner at King'ong'o maximum security prison in Nyeri.
