The prosecution said Siraj from Rajnagar village in the Habiganj district had been insisting that his wife Shahida Akter gave him the dowry from her parents. Her mother declined and this angered Siraj, who strangled his wife during an argument on March 7, 2004. The court acquitted the other two accused in the case.
