Idris Deby, Chad's president, is circulating a video of eight Chadians arrested in the north of the Central African Republic, who were taken to Bangui and allegedly tortured.
"Chadians living in the border areas in the Central African Republic are being mistreated. Hundreds are of them are in jail," Mr Deby told Radio France International. Central Africa's government denies using torture on the Chadians but confirmed that 11 Chadians have been executed for raiding villages.
Current political instability in Central Africa does not bode well for the continuation of the two landlocked countries' alliance. More than 7,000 people - including 1,000 people this week - have fled Central Africa's northern frontier settlements because of fighting, leaving hospitals, customs offices and town halls empty.
