In April, Bishop Manuel D. Moreno of the Diocese of Tucson urged the Catholic community to "pray, preach, educate and advocate" for an end to capital punishment. Moreno sent copies of the appeal to the diocese's 64 parishes and asked that pastors share the message during Good Friday services. Christians observe Good Friday as the day Jesus Christ was executed by crucifixion.
