In Canyon, a Randal County jury has given the death penalty to Rosendo Rodriguez, 28. Rodriguez was convicted on two counts of capital murder in the Sept. 2005 slaying of Summer Baldwin, 29, and her unborn child. Baldwin, who was a prostitute, was killed in a hotel room. She was about 10 weeks pregnant at the time. Experts testified that Baldwin, who was a prostitute, may have been alive when Rodriguez stuffed her in the suitcase and tossed it into a large trash bin. Rodriguez admitted to the killing, but said it was in self-defence.
