in Charleston, a federal jury recommended the death penalty for George M. "Porgy" Lecco and Valerie Suzette Friend, convicted of the April 16, 2005 murder of a federal drug informant.
Lecco, 57, and Friend, 44, now face execution by lethal injection after the jury voted unanimously to impose the death penalty for their roles in the murder of Carla Gail Collins, 33.
Prosecutors said Lecco asked Friend to kill Collins, who was providing information to a federal drug task force, to protect a cocaine ring run out of his Red Jacket pizzeria.
Although West Virginia is one of 12 states that does not have capital punishment, federal prosecutors indicted Friend and Lecco with federal murder charges which can carry the death penalty.
U.S. District Judge John Copenhaver Jr. will formally sentence Lecco and Friend on Aug. 23.
