District Sessions Judge Prakash Rai sentenced Mahendra Kumar Mandal, alias Mantu Mandal, to death. Mandal had threatened to extort money from the family of Rabindra Mishra, an employee of the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL). In 2002, he went with associates to Mishra's home and killed him and his family.
