In December, former Chadian President Goukouni Weddeye launched in Paris a major politico-military movement grouping over 10 opposition bodies with a view to fighting against the "dictatorial regime of President Idriss Derby in order to effect the necessary democratic changes for the future of Chad."
The group announced that "assassinations, violations, degrading and humiliating treatment, extrajudicial executions, embezzlement of public property, corruption and money laundering have been the benchmark of a Derby-led government system whose consequences have been politically and economically disastrous for Chad."
