In February, Archbishop Fernando Saenz Lacalle quietly approached Guatemalan leaders, seeking clemency for two Salvadoran men, Dimas Samayoa Garcia and Lucas Revolorio Samayoa, who were arrested in Adelanto, Guatemala, on February 5, and convicted on February 19 after a quick trial for belonging to a criminal gang called the Guanacos, which has been held responsible for the killing of at least 10 Guatemalans in recent years. Salvadoran officials revealed that the two convicts have lengthy criminal records in their own country, and the Government would not intervene to stop their execution. v
