In Gastonia, a new jury sentenced Jeff Duke to death a 2nd time for the same crime -- killing 2 men. Superior Court Judge Tim Patti read the sentence. Jury members last week convicted Duke, 35, on two counts of 1st-degree murder for killing Harold Grant, 57, and Ralph Arthurs, 48 on March 20, 1999. Duke already had been convicted of the same charges and was sentenced to death in March 2001. But the N.C. Supreme Court called for a retrial because someone stole the court reporter's notes and recordings the day of the sentencing, making the automatic appeal impossible.
