In its final trial the Jiangsu Provincial Higher People's Court sentenced Jiang Deping to death, the Xinhua Daily reported. Jiang was escorted to the execution ground. "Starting in 1997, Jiang organized 21 former prisoners and vagrants to use knives and iron bars to attack sand-quarrying boats. They also collected 'protection' fees from sand-quarrying operators," the paper said.
