In its initial trial, the Foshan Intermediate People's Court, in Guangdong Province, China, sentenced Shen Weilun, Li Zongming and Li Jianhang to death and sentenced Liao Youchi to death with reprieve. They were convicted of producing large quantities of "ice" between May 1998 and October 1999.
