In May, Catholic, Protestant, Greek Orthodox and Jewish leaders filed a petition asking the Illinois Supreme Court to impose a halt on executions until the death penalty process could be studied to find possible flaws. Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, Greek Orthodox Chancellor Demetri Kantzavelos and United Methodist Bishop C. Joseph Sprague are among the 18 religious leaders who filed the petition.
