In May, two foreign lawmakers - Kevin McNamara, a Labor Party member of the British Parliament, and Usman Santi, a Labor Party member of the Dutch Parliament - campaigned against New Hampshire's death penalty. The two MPs met local politicians and civic groups. A coalition of human rights, legal and religious groups organized the tour as part of its plan to introduce anti-death penalty legislation next year. Last year, the House killed a bill that would have expanded the death penalty. The House also voted down legislation to abolish capital punishment by the surprisingly narrow margin of 195-155. New Hampshire has not had an execution in 60 years. The state passed a law narrowing the old death penalty law and effectively reinstating the punishment in 1991.
