In November, the UN investigator assigned to the Democratic Republic of Congo estimated that 6,000 people had been killed, 500 were missing, 1.1 million people had fled their homes and 280,000 had gone into exile. He said he had sent the Government 2,375 allegations of human rights abuses and 19 appeals for urgent action in cases regarding people sentenced to death, but had received no reply.
