In Rankin County, in Judge William E. Chapman III's courtroom, Devin Allen Bennett, 22, was sentenced to death for killing Brandon, his 10-week-old son.
The jury rejected defence arguments that Bennett died after his father accidentally kicked the child off a bed in 2000.
"It was a killing centred around a felonious child-abuse case," said District Attorney Rick Mitchell, "The baby sat for hours gasping for air before he died."
Yolanda Lewis, the child's mother, testified for the defence.
