In Santa Barbara, Ryan Hoyt was sentenced to death for killing a teenager authorities say was kidnapped over a $200 drug debt his half brother owed. Hoyt, 23, was found guilty in November 2001 of the Aug. 6, 2000 1st-degree murder in the death of 15-year-old Nicholas Markowitz. "I find the aggravated circumstances so substantial in comparison to those in mitigation that the death penalty is warranted," said Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge Tom Adams in court.
