the Bombay High Court confirmed the death sentence awarded to Arjun Laxman Jogadia alias Abdul Rehman Shaikh, 35, for the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl.
The Sewri Sessions Court had sentenced Jogadia to death on January 12, 2006, for abducting, raping and killing the girl.
According to the prosecution, the girl's family knew Jogadia, and she and her brother called him `mama' (uncle).
The girl went missing on the evening of November 10, 2004. Her brother Santosh, who was then seven years old, told his parents that he and his sister ran into Jogadia around 10 pm that night and went to eat some rice with him.
Thereafter, according to Santosh, he returned alone, while the girl was still with Jogadia. The girl’s body was found under debris in nearby Agripada the following morning. A post-mortem report established that the girl had been raped and brutally killed.
