34th Special Sessions Court sentenced five members of a notorious Dandupalya gang to death, in connection with a double murder case reported in Urva police station limits in Mangalore, India, on 12 October 1997.
Dandupalya Krishna, Doddahanuma, Venkatesha alias Chandra, Munikrishna and Nallathimma are the persons who have been awarded the punishment. They are allegedly involved in more than 50 murder cases in Bangalore and this is the 16th capital punishment they have received in various murder and dacoity (banditry) cases.
It was alleged they had entered the house of Louis D Mellow and Ranjith Vegan (19) and had slit their throats before escaping with jewels and `5 lakh cash.
