in India, the Bombay High court quashed the death sentences of Leena Deosthali and her daughter Deepti. They were sentenced to death for killing Pune-based surgeon Dr Deepak Mahajan in June 2006. A division bench of Justices J N Patel and Mrudula Bhatkar set aside the Pune trial court order as there was no evidence against them. The Court found that the duo defended themselves badly and had not examined certain vital witnesses.
