Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, two members of the Bali nine who had been sentenced to death for attempting to smuggle heroin out of Indonesia, lodged their appeals with the Denpasar District Court.
Lawyers for the rest of the Bali nine, excluding Brisbane man Scott Rush, were expected to lodge appeals within days. Rush and his family said he would not appeal, fearing his life sentence might be increased to death.
He would instead pursue an appeal for clemency from Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono when appeals from the other Bali nine members were complete.
