Indonesians prosecutors demanded the death sentence for Imam Samudra, the man accused of masterminding the Bali terror bombings. "The defendant Abdul Azis, alias Imam Samudra... has been convincingly and legally proven to have jointly planned acts of terrorism...and jointly provided funding for the Bali bombing," chief prosecutor I Nyoman Dilla told judges at Samudra's trial. Dilla said Samudra was also guilty of possessing and using explosives. Police said the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terror group carried out the attack on two crowded nightclubs, killing 202 people, to strike at Westerners in revenge for oppression of Muslims in Afghanistan and elsewhere. Prosecutors said Samudra, 33, masterminded the bombings, picked the targets and assigned a man called Amrozi to buy one tonne of bomb-making chemicals and a van to carry a bomb.
