International observers think that death sentences handed out in Armenia are unlikely to be carried out

International observers think that death sentences handed out in Armenia are unlikely to be carried out. There has been a moratorium on executions in Armenia since 1991. A new Criminal Code will probably be adopted soon, in which the death penalty will be replaced with life imprisonment, in accordance with the Council of Europe's conditions.
