The Islamic Republic's Supreme Court has overturned the death sentence of political prisoner Mahmood Mehrabi. His lawyer, Babak Farsani, announced the decision. Farsani said, “The death sentence of my client, Mahmoud Mehrabi, on charges of corruption on Earth, has been overturned by the efforts of respected colleagues on the case and the assistance provided by the Supreme Court. He added that Mehrabi's case has been referred to the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan for reconsideration. Mehrabi, a resident of Mobarakeh in central Isfahan, was first arrested by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in February 2023. He was briefly released on bail in March 2023 but rearrested hours later. Human rights groups say he was tortured and denied medical treatment for a hernia. Last year, Mehrabi faced 187 charges, including "corruption on Earth," issued by a local prosecutor's office.
