IRAN EXECUTION POSTPONEMENT MOVE WELCOMED

Amnesty International welcomed the postponement by Iranian authorities of the execution of Abbas Hosseini, an Afghan national, for a murder committed when he was 17 years old. Judicial authorities in the city of Mashhad reportedly allowed more time to persuade the victim’s family to accept financial compensation. No new date for the execution has been set. Hosseini was sentenced to death in June 2004 for the murder of a man whom he said had tried to rape him in July 2003.
