in Bangladesh, the trial for the 1975 assassination of the country’s founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman resumed. On Nov 8, 1998, Dhaka sessions judge Golam Rasul awarded the death sentence to 15 of the 20 accused. Bazlul Huda, Syed Faruk Rahman, Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan and Mohiuddin Ahmed appealed in the high court. Justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim of a third high court bench upheld the death sentence of 12 of the 15 accused and acquitted three on April 30, 2001. Four of the 12 appealed in the Appellate Division in the same year. Of those who received death sentence, Rashid, Shariful Haq Dalim, Noor, Risalder Moslemuddin, Rashed Chowdhury and Majed are absconding. Aziz Pasha died in Zimbabwe.
