IRAN - Further information on the execution of Najib Azarm in Tabriz on 7 September

September 11, 2025 - IRAN. Further information on the execution of Najib Azarm in Tabriz on 7 September
News of the execution was already reported in recent days, but Hengaw has now obtained documents confirming that the death sentence of Najib Azarm, a Kurdish prisoner from Urmia, was carried out while his case was still pending. He was executed in secret in Tabriz Central Prison without prior notice to his family and before a hearing scheduled for 3 November 2025.
The documents indicate that Azarm, a native of the village of Kalankani Targor in Urmia, who was accused of drug offences, was executed despite the fact that judicial reviews of controversial elements of his case had not been completed. His execution before the conclusion of legal proceedings constitutes a violation of fair trial guarantees.
According to the “Sana” judicial system, a court order relating to supervisory procedures was issued on 12 July 2025. On the same date, a further review of the case was scheduled for 3 November 2025 due to unresolved issues. Nevertheless, Azarm was secretly executed before the trial could take place. According to sources, at dawn on 7 September 2025, between five and seven executions were carried out in Tabriz Central Prison, one of which was that of Azarm.
