IRAN HANGS MAN CONVICTED OF DRUG TRAFFICKING

Iran hanged a man convicted of drug trafficking in a prison in the central city of Isfahan, the state news agency IRNA reported. The man, identified as Ali Sh., 43, was hanged after police found 358 kilos (787 pounds) of heroin hidden in his truck. The report added he confessed to purchasing the narcotics from two Afghans in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan. This was the first execution in Iran in 2007, according to an AFP tally based on press and witness reports.
