Amnesty International warned of the imminent execution of Afghan national Abbas Hosseini in Mashhad, north-eastern Iran, for a murder committed in 2003 when he was 17. Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Middle East Deputy Programme Director, appealed “to the Head of the Judiciary to immediately stay the execution.” Hosseini was sentenced to death in 2004, his execution was postponed in 2005, and his death sentence was upheld in 2008.
