Iran's Supreme Court confirmed the death sentences handed down to eight members of a kidnapping gang that operated in the northeastern city of Mashhad, the Qods newspaper reported.
"Punishing these people in public will promote security and give a good lesson to wrong doers," it quoted a court official as saying.
The eight were among 20 gang members sentenced to die for kidnapping and "harassing" young women. The report, quoting a judicial source, said the Supreme Court annulled the death sentences for three of the gang while the remaining cases were still being examined.
Iran imposes the death penalty for a variety of offences, including murder, rape, armed robbery, heavy drug trafficking, blasphemy and apostasy.
