It was brought to the attention of the Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions that since the reintroduction of the death penalty over 820 individuals have been sentenced to death in the Philippines (E/CN.4/1999/39/Add.1). The Philippines was a cosponsor of the amendments presented by Egypt (A/C.3/54/L.31 and L.32) to the resolution for a moratorium on executions presented by the European Union at the 54th UN General Assembly (A/C.3/54/L.8/Rev.1).
