It was reported that criminal courts across Burundi, notably in the towns of Bujumbura, Gitega and Ngozi sentenced a total of 20 people to death in the month of May alone, for manslaughter. The Burundi News Agency (ABP), stated that in Ngozi, 11 trials were completed, with the court passing six death sentences. ABP quoted Justice minister Therence Sinunguruza as demanding that the month of August be devoted to execution of the death sentences.
