It was reported that the British high commission was bringing in a "specialist" to Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea to talk about the death penalty and its impact on the community during a week long seminar on capital punishment. The speaker was from the Centre for Capital Punishment in London. A senior officer from the high commission said more than 120 participants were expected and they would be asked to share their views. She said the speaker would share Britain's experience and participants would be able to see whether the death penalty could be an answer to PNG's alarming crime rate.
