It was reported that the local court in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang had sentenced to death Phan Thanh Hung, 24, for raping and killing a woman and stealing her jewellery. Hung had been found guilty of murdering Mai Thi Thu Van, 37, after raping her and taking a gold necklace, a gold ring, gold ear-rings and 308,000 Vietnamese dollars (20 USD).
