It was revealed in a report submitted by the Kenyan government to the United Nation's Human Rights Committee that there are 1,900 prisoners on death row in the country, 200 of which had exhausted their attempts to have the sentence commuted to life.
The report did not state how many of the 1, 900 were below the age of 18 or pregnant.
Those aged below 18 cannot be sentenced to death but can be held at the pleasure of the President.
"Pregnant women shall also not be sentenced to death if found guilty of capital offences," the report added.
The second periodic report on civil and political rights was submitted to the UN by Attorney-General Amos Wako's office. The report was based on the international covenant to which Kenya is a signatory.
