ITALY. PARLIAMENTARY MOTION ON THE DEATH PENALTY IN IRAQ

Vicepresident of the Chambers of Deputy, Alfredo Biondi, presented a parliamentary motion on the death penalty in iraq.
The motion engages the Italian government in backing the stance adopted by Britain and Europe against the use of the death penalty, even in the case of Saddam Hussein, and to support the stance in favour of retaining the moratorium on executions in Iraq as well as the prospective abolition of the death penalty in the new Constitution.
It also engages the Government in reaffirming the country’s and the European Union’s opposition to capital punishment by refusing to facilitate, to accept or to participate in any way or form to the consignment of any person to the Iraqi authorities until they give adequate assurances that the person will not be subject to the death penalty.
