ITALY. PRESIDENT OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MAKES APPEAL FOR AMINA

President of the Italian Senate’s Human Rights Commission, Enrico Pianetta (Forza Italia), appealed to Yemen’s President, Ali Abdallah Saleh, for immediate clemency to be granted to Amina Ali Abdulatif Al Tuhaif, sentenced to death in Yemen for having participated in the murder of her husband when under 15 years of age.
“I appeal to your sense of humanity and to the obligations your country has undertaken towards the international community so that Amina be liberated as soon as possible”.
Amina has always maintained her innocence. “The death penalty,” added Pianetta, “is contrary to all ethical and civil principles and its non application is promoted by many international resolutions. Moreover, International Conventions undersigned by your country ban the execution of those who were minors at the time of the crime.”
