Italy refused to extradite a Rumanian national to Turkey to face murder charges

1 MIN READ
Italy refused to extradite a Rumanian national to Turkey to face murder charges. The Rumanian, a young woman resident in Milan, was identified only as M. Tufaru.
Turkey had initiated legal procedures for her extradition, but both the Milan Appeals Court and the Court of Cassation denied the request. Both courts took into account the fact that Turkey still maintains the death penalty in their considerations on the case.
The courts also took into consideration the elements leading to the request for her arrest by the Turkish authorities, and found them effectively lacking in import to implicate the Rumanian in the murder case. Tufaru consistently denied any responsibility for the murder. She will now be allowed to remain in Italy with her Italian husband and son.
