The deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Alfredo Biondi and MP Fabrizio Vigni presented the group of deputies against the death penalty to the Chamber. Over 120 deputies from all the different parliamentary groups have adhered to the initiative co-ordinated by Biondi and Vigni.The group intends to carry on the work started during the previous legislatures and relaunch on an international level proposals and initiatives aimed towards the abolition of the death penalty and a greater respect for human rights all over the world. The first act will be the presentation of a parliamentary motion asking the Italian government to take upon itself once more the leadership of an international campaign in favour of a universal moratorium on capital executions through a resolution approved by the UN General Assembly. The official presentation of the parliamentary group against the death penalty was also attended by Hands Off Cain and the St. Egidio Community.
