Jamal Abdel-Khaleq Bazazi, a 23 year old Moroccan man, was reportedly sentenced to death for killing a jeweler in 2002 so he could rob him of money with which he could buy rockets he would use to attack the US Embassy. The death sentence was delivered by the Mount Lebanon Penal Court, headed by magistrate Said Mirza. Bazazi alledgedly wanted to punish the US for providing Israel with weapons to use against the Palestinians. Bazazi was assisted in the assassination by another man, Hawari Nouriddine, whose full identity was not established by the authorities. Bazazi offered to join Hizbullah in order to "get involved in jihad against Israel." But after his offer was declined and it was decided to deport him, he decided to break into a jewelry shop in Dora to steal money and buy rockets. This led to the death of jeweler Semaan Matar, who was shot by Bazazi using a hand gun with a silencer. Bazazi said his partner in the crime, who was waiting outside the jeweler shop, Hawari Nouriddine, was a member of the Algerian National Salvation Army. As well as being sentenced to death, Bazazi was forced to pay LL100 million to the heirs of the dead jeweler.
