James Henry Hampton, 62, white, was put to death by lethal injection in State Prison of Potosi. Hampton, who had renounced all further appeals, was pronounced dead at 00:05. He had been convicted of killing two women in as many bank robberies: Mrs Keaton, 58, white on 2nd August 1992 and Christine Shuman, 48, white on 16th September 1992. He was the first person to be executed in the State during the year, the 42nd since the State resumed executions in 1989. He was the 26th to be executed in the U.S. during the year and No 624 since the death penalty was re-introduced in 1976.
